What to Expect
Taught by instructors with specialized training in yoga for chronic pain, this program is free and consists of seven self-paced modules you can access through our website.
Each module will contain:
- Education: a 10-15 minute educational video explaining aspects of yoga and how it can help reduce your chronic pain
- Demonstration: a 5-8 minute demonstration video that goes into more depth about a certain yoga technique
- Practice: a 20 minute yoga practice video with two different levels of intensity
- Brief Questionnaire: answer a few short questions to let us know that you have completed the module
While you can choose your own pace, we recommend a pace of one module every 7 days to allow you time to incorporate the information and try the practices several times. The program incorporates tips and tricks to help build sustainable habits that will keep you practicing yoga as you feel less pain. This will leave you feeling empowered with tools to improve your well-being, relieve tension, and control your stress. All the videos and resources will remain available to you even after completion of the program.
In order to evaluate and study this program, we ask participants to complete 3 surveys. The first survey will be completed with program registration. The remaining surveys will be sent at 3 months and 6 months after registration. Each survey takes about 10 minutes.
Who Might Benefit
Research has shown the benefits of yoga for people living with chronic pain. This program strives to teach the basics of a yoga program and allow you to build your own practice based on your needs. The goal of this program is to make yoga accessible to everyone. You may have tried yoga before and felt it was too much for you or have an idea in your mind about who can do yoga. This program was designed to teach you the powerful interaction between the mind and body that yoga produces, which in turn will help you better understand your pain and that you have the power to change it. It will teach you ways to reduce stress by providing you a sense of control, which will reduce your physical pain. We provide a wide range of traditional yoga practices that have been adapted for chronic pain.
